HOST

The Host is the first impression guests will get of the restaurant whether it is on the phone or when they come in. Hosts must be well groomed, even tempered, agreeable, well-spoken and fast witted. Hosts, in conjunction with the kitchen, keep the pace of the restaurant even and efficient.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Hosts report to the Manager on duty and are in charge of the following:

  • Keep host station organized, clean and maintained at all times
  • Field emergency calls to your colleagues on duty
  • Hosts are often quite literally the first person a customer will come into contact with either in person or by phone. Just like a host of a party, a restaurant host must greet guests as if we have been waiting for them to arrive all day long. Kind, professional and immediate recognition of customers entering our door is a must.
  • Hosts must know the menu, daily specials, general restaurant information, table sections, dining room stations, and fellow FOH employees on duty
  • Hosts manage the phones, take reservations, record messages and answer customer questions
  • Hosts will assist customers with packages (birthday cakes, decorations being dropped off, etc…)
  • Hosts take the “emotional temperature” of incoming guests and will relate any noteworthy information to the manager on duty and servers regarding specifics of the reservation or needs of the guests.
  • Hosts recognize incoming guests, confirm their needs – and either direct them to the bar, party room OR escort them to their table. Once seated, a host graciously hands the customer over to the care of the server.
  • Hosts will assist customers in leaving the building and bid them a good evening or day, thanking them for their patronage. A host will continue with this routine throughout their shift until the last table has been sat.
  • On occasion a host may be asked by the manager on duty to assist with service, cleaning tables, maintain the dining room

SERVER ASSISTANT

A server assistant works primarily in the front of the house and is required to tend to many needs of the dining room before, during, and after service. SA’s assist the servers in keeping the customer’s needs met.

They also help to keep a clean and properly maintained dining room.

A SA’s speed and efficiency helps turn over tables contributing to increased sales

volume. Because SA’s have direct contact with customers, it is important that they speak

clearly and make eye contact with colleagues and customers alike. Bussers also play a role

in helping maintain and uphold sanitation and cleanliness standards.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

SAs receive direction from servers, the kitchen, and the FOH managers. SAs must be organized, good listeners and even tempered. Some responsibilities include:

  • Knowing table numbers, seat numbers and service stations
  • Help prepare the dining room for service through cleaning,
  • stocking, setting, bussing and other tasks
  • Clean and reset tables, ensure tables are level, wipe down chairs, keep floors clean

  • Stock/restock stations with items needed for service; glasses, coffee mugs, silverware, assorted spoons, sugar caddies, salt, pepper, lemons,
  • steak knives, soup spoons, tablespoons, etc.
  • Polish silverware and glasses in a sanitary manner in service area to remove spots and water stains
  • Maintain short pleasant rapport with guests and answer any questions or listen to their concerns
  • Assist in maintaining general cleanliness of the entire restaurant

in the timeliness of service. The main responsibility for this position is to deliver food to

guests in a friendly, professional & knowledgeable manner. The ability to work well under
